How to use Gmail dark mode on iPhone, Android, or computer

By default, Gmail favors a white/light background. It's often great to use in the middle of the day when brightness is exactly what you need. Still, sometimes it's useful to go dark. Switching to Gmail's dark theme only takes a few short steps.

How to Enable Dark Mode on iOS

Gmail’s dark mode only arrived on iOS relatively recently, although it’s not clear why it’s taken so long. In fact, Google is taking a while to make it available on all devices. If you can’t access it on your device, you may need to update your software. If that doesn’t work, you may just have to wait for a future update to enable it on your device.

Here’s how you choose dark mode in Gmail on iOS:

  • Step 1. Launch the Gmail app on your iPhone device.
  • Step 2 Tap the menu icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen (three horizontal lines).
  • Step 3. Scroll to Settings.
  • Step 4. Select Theme.
  • Step 5. Select Dark.

How to Enable Dark Mode on Android

To enable dark mode on Android, make sure you have the most up-to-date version of Gmail installed on your phone. (Click “Update” if one appears).

Unfortunately, dark mode isn’t available if you’re using Android Pie or earlier versions. However, you can get around this by using Gmail in your browser by visiting gmail.com from Chrome for Android of Firefox Preview.

Android 10 has a system-wide dark mode available to enable. Or you can activate it manually:

  • Step 1. Launch the Gmail app on your Android device.
  • Step 2. Tap the menu icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen (three horizontal lines).
  • Step 3. Scroll to Settings.
  • Step 4 Select Theme.
  • Step 5. Select Dark.

Here are a few simple steps through which you can enable dark mode on Google search
