Speed Up GTA V in Windows 11 and Fix Game Lags

There are a few ways that you can use to fix lag. Some of these are pretty obvious fixes while others might sound a bit unrealistic. The truth is that while there is no definite fix to the matter, the methods in this guide have been proven to have helped users with their lag problems.

GTA 5 System Requirements

The first thing to check would be to see if your computer meets the recommended system requirements for the game. The official recommended system requirements for the game are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1.
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
  • Memory: 8GB.
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB.
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible.
  • HDD Space: 65GB.

Adjusting Your Graphics Settings

Another way to help you fix your lag problem in GTA 5 is to adjust your graphics settings. This is especially true if you do not meet the system requirements for the game and is going to help you reduce your lag problem. A screenshot of the game’s graphics settings can be seen below:

Fix 4 – Limit your FPS

The high FPS could be causing the stuttering and lag issues in GTA 5. So try to adjust the FPS limit of the game. You may also want to turn down the extended distance scaling as it would cost more video memory.

  • Go to GTA V Settings.
  • Click Advanced Graphics.
  • Locate Extended Distance Scaling and reduce it to the lowest.
  • Now click Graphics > Refresh Rate and set it to 60Hz or smaller to limit your FPS.
  • Save your changes and relaunch the game to check.
